Sights in South Tyrol and in the Dolomites |
| |
South Tyrol and the area of the Dolomites are blessed with numerous sights. About eighty museums prove the big cultural and historical importance of South Tyrol. More than 800 castles and residences are signs of a great past. Numerous churches and convents are proof of the deeply rooted tradition that characterises the inhabitants of this country. But there are even more, many more sights to be seen, visited and admired. For example, the earth pillars on Renon/Ritten, the falcon house at Castle Tyrol, the mountain passes round the Sella massif in the Dolomites, the Gardens of Castle Trautmanssdorf, or simply the various farmers’ and weekly markets or the mountain farms which look like eyries on the steep hills of the valleys and impress with their sunburnt facades.
Nature reserve Puez Geisler
The nature reserve Puez Geisler is one of eight South Tyrolean nature reserves through which unique natural areas and cultural landscape have been placed under special protection. In 1999 the nature reserve Puez Geisler was expanded to its present size of 10,116 hectare. The nature reserve Puez Geisler is a treasure trove for geologists because it contains practically all types of rock as well as various layers and weathering forms of the dolomite. The seven municipalities bordering to the nature reserve together care for the preservation and protection of the various parts. The area is not closed but open to all visitors. You can discover it on your walks. |
